FEBRUARY, 2019 ISSUE: IS THERE A NEED FOR MAN TO SUBMIT TO THE WILL OF GOD?
One
of the very sharp lessons every child learns is submission. Children
immediately they learn to speak, are taught to submit and obey the instructions
by their parents. When parents spank children for the wrongs
they do, often times, they learn from that experience and never will they like
to the spanked for the same wrong actions.
An obedient child is one who is submissive to the parents. Children who
honor their parents are obedient. Such children are a blessing to godly
parents.
On
the side of the story, there are some children who are stubborn and a constant
source of worry to parents. They do not obey nor do they submit to their
parents. It is every parent’s wish to have obedient children but that is not
always the case most times. Disobedient Children are always punished by
parents. Nature itself teaches that submission is relevant.
Just
us children obey parents, God has a much greater power and ought to be obeyed. God
has authority. His authority can be seen by His wonderful works of creation.
His ex-nihilo creation proves His
Power. God depends every man to obey Him. From the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt to the
Promised Land, one of the key lesson we learn from the Bible books of Law is
submission. God gave them the Law and His expectation was for these folks to
obey the Law. God demanded that they totally submit their heart, minds and
souls to Him.
Deuteronomy 6:4: “You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” Moses after He
repeated Law to the Children of Israel, He continually reminded them of the
need to totally surrender their lives to God. But, the Children of Israel
failed to obey God in many occasions and God punished them for their
actions. He sent them into exile and, He
made them loose battles. God is a merciful God but He does not temper His mercy
with justice. When God gives a law, He demands us to obey, when we disobey God,
He punishes us. The only way out is to obey and be free. Anytime, the Children
of Israel were obedient to God, God was with them–He gave them victory. God is
at peace with those we seek His face and vice-versa.
Though, we are living under the Law of Christ today (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb.8:8-13; Col. 2:14-15),
God still demands obedience and submission to His will. God will punish anyone
who is disobedient (2Thess 1:8-9; Mk. 16:15-16).
We seriously need to submit to God because God all
men will have to give an account to Him one day (Heb. 9:27;2Cor. 5:10). This makes it a matter of importance for us
to be submissive to the will of God.
As Christians living in a confused world, the
question we must be asking ourselves is: Am I submitting to the will of God? Disobedience is punishable by God. Let’s submit
to the will of God and live.
