ARE YOU A DEFENDER OF THE CAUSE OF CHRIST ?JANUARY ISSUE
In the
termite colony, each individual has a specialized role to play to sustain
ecological balance of their abode. The members of the termite colony includes
the soldiers, the queen, the workers
and the winged reproductives. Each member is equally important as another. What
marvelous me is the fact that these tiny creatures, are so much passionate
about their security. They have defenders who work to ensure the colony is
secure and save. The soldiers (nasutes)
have specialized jaws for biting as a means of defense. It is important to know
that every creature on earth needs defense.
In the same vain, Jesus Christ requires
of us to defend our faith. 1 Peter 3:15-“15 but [a]sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts,
always being ready to
make a [b]defense to everyone who asks you to give an account
for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and [c]reverence;”
As Christians, we must ready to give a defense of the hope we have in Jesus Christ. The defense of the gospel is a great responsibility for the Christian and we must do our possible best for fulfill this the task of defending the gospel.
In 2 Timothy 2:3-4-“3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.” Christ Jesus is our perfect, He came to the world, defended the word of God, suffered various hardships and finally died on the cross as the ransom for many, of which we are part. We have to run the race with endurance. Hebrews 12:1-2-“1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” We are soldiers in the army of the lord and our task is to defend the word of God. As soldiers, our responsibility to defend the word of God.
How then can we defend the gospel?

How then can we defend the gospel?
We can only do this if we are ready
to study and to learn from the word of God. 2 Timothy 2:15-“Be diligent to present
yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed,
accurately handling the word of truth. “We must endeavor to be
students of the bible.
Our preaching today as well must be irrefutable, it must be coupled with investigation. As Christians, we must be ready to search the
scriptures as the Bereans did in Acts 17:11.
In this century, false teachings are gaining grounds in the world. It is a pity to say people are ignorant and whole heartedly believe in false and perverted teachings. We must to ready to defend the word of God openly to lead these people to the light. As soldiers of the Lord, it is our responsibility to protect and safeguard the very words of God. It would be hypocritical on our part if we deceive ourselves that we love God but indeed we do not. We cannot to lip worshipers of God. Matthew 15:8.As soldiers, there is a critical need for us to defend the word of God.
Folks, if we know the truth, we cannot and never keep it a secret. We have to speak it out. Can we put ourselves in the shoes of Stephen, James, Paul, Andrews and Peter? They defended the word of God to the verge of death. We must take up our cross daily and follow Jesus. Can we say we are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ? I am pretty sure our answer will be yes, then it behooves on us to defend it. We must fight against the dilution of God’s word. We cannot be afraid to speak out. Paul, Andrews and the rest of the apostles defended the word to the point of death. Most of them were martyred for the cause of Christ. The first century Christians defended the word of God in various ways. Refutation-2 Timothy 4:2-4, Galatians 1:8-9, rejection -2 John 9-11, explain the reason for their hope in Jesus Christ-1 Peter 3:15, confident pronouncements-Acts 5:29, Risked their life for the cause of Christ (Acts 15:26), suffered from physical abuse.(Acts 11:24-28 ) It is a matter of urgency for us to defend the words of the Bible. We must relentlessly fight the good fight of faith.1 Timothy 6:12

By the defense of the gospel,
people will come to believe in the truth rather than the fables of men. We must
be out to refute false teachings. We must love the erring human race. It is our
duty to let them know the truth for it sets them free as well. John 8:32.
The time is now. Soldiers, let us put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13) and defend the word of God. I wish you a happy new month with the Lord. Thank you.
